Movie Review - Revolver Rani

 

This weekend, it's all about Chambal and its rani with the revolver in hand wherein, the Thakur family's dangerous Alka Singh is all set to make both her rivals and lover bleed with bullets and kisses respectively. The movie Revolver Rani which is out on the big screen today revolves around the daughter of a Thakur family Kangna Ranaut (Alka Singh) who prefers to let her gun do the talking and how she falls in love with a Bollywood star Vir Das (Rohan).

Kangna plays the role of a very fierce politician who becomes the target of the main opposition leader Zakir Hussain (Udaybhan Singh) who comes to realise that the only way to shot down the 'Revolver Rani' is by targeting her sweet lover boy. And thus, Kangna fights against all her rivals in style to protect her beau. On the other hand, Vir Das initially gelled with the rani of Chambal only to make her the ladder of his success journey but eventually ends up being the toy boy of bold but not so sweet Kangna. 

The entire film moves around the tale of Kangna who on one hand starts regaining the desires of a woman and on the other continues her macho life of killings and violence. The film has ample of catchy punch lines with series of action packed sequences, and not to miss, some hot scenes including a passionate kissing scene in which Kangna makes Vir bleed by kissing.

Kangna has yet again proved that she is not only the sweet queen of Bollywood but also the fierce rani who knows how to carry herself in whatever roles the director puts her into. The unusual chemistry between Vir Das and Kangna worked wonders, while Vir was also superb with his comic timings.

Zakir Hussain and most of the actors have done all justice to their roles and although the story is far away from reality but the director Sai Kabir has crafted it in a very crispy and catchy manner which is sure to hook the entertainment loving viewers tight.

After becoming the queen of Bollywood, Kangna Ranaut is surely the 'dabang' rani of the industry. Kangna Ranaut's Revolver Rani has hit the theatres today and the film has all in it to hit the box office as well. 

All in all, the movie Revolver Rani gets a big thumbs up with the tag of being a never to be missed watch.

Movie Review - Kaanchi

 

Kaanchi the much-awaited romantic-musical Bollywood flick by Subhash Ghai has released today. Kartik Tiwari, Indrani Chakraborty renamed as 'Mishti' by Subhash Ghai, are the main leads in the film. Kaanchi is all about the revolutions brought about by a beautiful young woman. It is a total woman-centric film produced under the banner Mukta Arts Ltd. Other casts of the film include Mithun Chakraborty, Rishi Kapoor, Hazel Crowney and Rishabh Sinha. Kaanchi's music is composed by Ismail Darbar, Salim-Sulaiman & Subhash Ghai. Irshad Kamil has written most of the lyrics.

 

The story goes like this.... Mishti (Kaanchi) is the beautiful young lady from a small village. Kaanchi who fights for justice in the country and represents the youth power. She is the innocent rural beauty who fights against power. 

The love between Aaryan and Kaanchi is in the backdrop of the 'pahadi' village. Kaanchi fights for the unjust things happening in the big city. This fight against injustice makes her a youth icon. She gets her fan following by doing that. Her deeds against wrongdoings putforth her before the national leaders, who inturn suppresses her inner power. 

Kaanchi is an inspirational story for the women especially which will appeal the audience for sure. Subhash Ghai who is famous for his music in all his films has not let us down. Musical score is good but not so good compared to his Taal.

The storyline is gripping and holds the audience because of it's interesting script. Rishi Kapoor in a negative shade is excellent and Mithun da shines majestically in his role. The chemistry, love, romance between the star cast is outstanding. Mishti shines in her role as well. 

Cinematography by Sudhir Chowdhary represents on screen very well and choreography also excels. As expected by everyone Kaanchi will be a big blockbuster movie. 

Just only one thing negative about the film, it is a bit clumsy in the middle and could have been better. 

 

Verdict ... Overall, Kaanchi the rural beauty who fights for justice through her inner power with the unethical and unjust is worth a watch, Big budget film Kaanchi will make its box office entry with a big bang!!

2 States - Movie Review

 

2 States film is based on the famous bestseller written by Chetan Bhagat '2 States: The Story Of My Marriage'. The film is set in the present age where Arjun Kapoor plays a North Indian boy and Alia Bhatt a South Indian girl. 

2 States is about the typical boy meets girl story and falling in love with her. How much ever liberal their thinking is and independent they are, they want their parents to approve their love. Both are very much in love with each other but still cannot go against their parents' wishes and get married. What is the reason? Why their parents want the kids to do well in life but still cannot accept a partner out of their community. 

The concept is not at all new to Bollywood. Starting from Ek Duuje Ke Liye till recently to Vicky Donor, there have been enough and more films about inter-caste marriages and relationships. Why is it that we are still not broad-minded when it comes to marriage and love? 

2 States is directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala. First choice for the film was Shahrukh And Asin Thottumkal and later Ranbir and Saif Ali Khan were approached. Finally, it was Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt who made it. Amrita Singh and Ronit Roy play as Arjun Kapoor's parents while, Revathy and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam as Alia's Parents. 

The film attempts to portray the answer for the various questions that crosses the minds of both the lovers and their respective families. The lovers decide to persuade their families instead of rebelling and succeeds in their attempt too. 2 States attempts to convey the audience to break the pre-conceived notions about inter caste marriages.

 

The story goes like this.. 

 

Krish Malhotra (Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya Swaminathan (Alia Bhatt) meet in IIM-Ahmedabad and falls in love. They decide to get married but not until their parents agree. Complications arise when they decide to get married especially when both are from different states of India. Krish is a North Indian Punjabi boy from Delhi, while Ananya is a Tamil Brahmin girl from Chennai. 

The film goes on with parents oppposing and cultural clashes which keeps the audience entertained. To make their love blossom into a marriage the couple fights harder in their battle. For, it is always easy to rebel than to convince. Will Krish and Ananya's love win their parents hearts as well? Will they end as a happily married couple? 

Abhishek Varman has done total justice to Chetan Bhagat's book and delightfully taken it. With the soundtrack incredibly gelling with the film, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have done wonderful work. 2 States is a total entertainer and a sure shot Bollywood box office hit!

Movie Review - Bhoothnath Returns

 

One walks into the theatre to watch Bhoothnath Returns with a lofty promise thanks to the presence of the major draw of the movie-Amitabh Bachchan! But barely have you rested your posterior and have started warming up the seat, then you realise that the real star of the show is somebody else-someone who is at least six decades younger to the big daddy of Bollywood and less than half the size of Mr Bachchan’s larger than life tall frame.
Yes, the child protagonist Parth Bhalerao has delivered an effortlessly sparkling performance and some high-blown punch lines that have completely knocked down Big B’s towering persona and muzzled his deep baritone. But watching this movie you ultimately salute the Shehenshah for the dignity, grace and elegance he brings to the silver-screen with his magical personality and the performance so cleverly projected that complements Parth’s unabashedly brash character.
Nitesh Tiwari’s Bhoothnath Returns is an enjoyable watch if you have patience and an open mind to receive a genuine effort from the maker who has his heart at the right place. Unlike the first part, that was strictly meant for entertaining kids, the second installement has a substantial plot and terrific performances from the actors that will warm the cockles of your heart. If the first half of Bhoothnath Returns is witty, clever and engaging, the second half is a tad too lengthy and laborious to sit through. But Bachchan’s striking performance, Boman Irani’s meanness as a local politician Bhau (yet another delectable act, by the way), Sanjay Mishra’s ridiculously funny lawyer and young Parth’s refreshing screen presence as Akrod will keep you hooked.

The plot:

Big B is back with a bang as a friendly and adorable ghost, but sadly his ghastly presence is not respected. Kids have a complete disregard for this bhooth and adults fail to acknowledge his BIG presence. In this sad and sorry situation walks in Akrod ( Parth Bhalerao), a slum dweller, who is known for his street smartness. Akrod can see Bhoothnath and decides to give the friendly ghost the respect and position he deserves. What does the boy get in exchange? Well, he receives the much needed bhaav as the new ghost-buster in the town with the super-natural assistance from Bhoothnath himself.
The tiny tot with the swagger of a Hollywood megastar soon starts communicating with other ghosts to vacate old, dilapidated and haunted properties as Bhoothnath uses his smart tricks for this noble endeavor. Akrod gets the much-needed moolah from the builders and real estate giants from the city as he can drive out any soul from ghost-infested lands and buildings. But soon Bhoothnath and his little friend encounter a murky situation in which local politician Bhau (Boman Irani) has played a dirty hand. The duo then begins a clean-up mission to dethrone Bhau by contesting an election.
Director Nitesh Tiwari weaves the plot engagingly and interestingly, blending issues such as blatant corruption, the ever increasing crimes and rampant scams that stem out of a bad governance. Will our Bhoothnath take on a the slimy politician who has been fooling the public, robbing them all these years and win the election without using his supernatural prowess?

What’s hot?

The breezy first half will keep you in splits where Akrod and Bhoothnath warm up to each other and develop a special bond. Tiwari uses the natural pace and progression of the film without any hysteria and melodrama. His precise direction and engaging narrative complement the screenplay that’s peppered with fine turn of events. The dialogues are catchy, witty and relentlessly hilarious. Sample this: Akrod tells Bhoothnath when he tries to scare a bunch of kids-Tune na thoda overacting kiya, par kya hain na India main overacting hee chalta hai!
Bachchan is supreme with his act. The 71-year-old thespian can make you smile and weep big, fat tears as he energises tremendous potenial into a performance that will met your hart. Boman Irani has proved once gain why he is one of the finest talents we have. He is the baap when it comes to employing loud expressions, subtle face contortions and micro emotions to best effect to portray a sly and slimy, ruthless and mean, politician. Sanjay Mishra as an honest lawyer will keep you in splits with his poker-faced humour. National Award winning actor Usha Jadhav, as Akrod’s mother, has done her job sincerely without being melodramatic.

What’s not?

The unending tutoring on the right to vote is the only off-key element of this movie. As if the director was on a mission to hammer the message on the importance of voting into our collective heads. At 160 minutes, the movie becomes a bit stretched in the second half with Big B delivering more than his regular share of lengthy monologues.

Our take:

In a nutshell, Bhoothnath Returns is a fun, entertaining and engaging drama that has reaffirmed the diktat superstars follow diligently. Never sign on the dotted line for a project that features either a cuddly puppy or an adorable kid. Even the most superlative stars ever walked the earth are reduced to the status of mere props when they share screen-space with those two screen scorchers. Kudos to Bachchan for taking that risk knowingly and yet managing to stand out (tall and impressive) even as the little Parth decided to steal the show. Isi baat par, party toh banti hai, no?

Review - Main Tera Hero

  

Main Tera Hero is a typical David Dhawan style movie, which is light-hearted.

The story revolves around Sreenath Prasad aka Seenu (Vaun Dhawan) the most notorious boy in Ooty. He drops out from his college in Ooty in order to pursue education in a Bangalore college. Here he falls in love with Sunaina (Ileana D’ Cruz). But Sunaina is forced to marry Angad (Arunoday Singh), a local police officer, who is more of a terrorising gangster.
Seenu also has another die-hard lover in the form of Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), of whom he is unaware till the first half. He had once saved her friends from some goons by bashing the pulp out of them and Ayesha instantly knew that he was the perfect man for her. Ayesha’s father (Anupam Kher) is a big gangster and kidnaps Sunaina to get hold of Seenu and compel him to marry his daughter. Now how Seenu gets screwed up in this love triangle, and how he uses his mind and muscle to strike back and come out victorious, is the basis of the film.
Varun Dhawan has given his 200 percent in the film and David Dhawan has utilised it to the best of his abilities. Varun literally carries the entire film on his shoulders. He has a bout of untapped energy, which has undoubtedly been captured well in this film. His talents are explored and he definitely is one actor to look forward to in the near future. His performance is lively and with every dialogue he leaves an ignorant smile on your face. His dance is full on Govinda-ish and it forces you to stand up and join him with every step. There are some scenes where you actually start seeing Govinda in Varun’s acting.
Ileana D’ Cruz is good and surprisingly Nargis Fakhri too. Both the heroines manage to add that necessary oomph in the movie and also couple it with some good acting. Arunoday Singh is the perfect eccentric-gangster-extortionist villain in the first half, but somehow he turns comical in the second half, which isn’t as good. Anupam Kher as the funny don seems more comical than terrorising. On the contrary his right hand, played by Saurabh Shukla, does a very good job and manages to terrify you and at the same time tickle your funny bone. Rajpal Yadav is also hilarious and delivers a commendable performance. Rajpal Yadav’s character reminds you of Johnny Lever from any of the ’90s David Dhawan flicks. Shakti Kapoor’s cameo is also well-timed.
Also there is Salman Khan in the film, who acts as the voice of God as Ganesha, Krishna and Jesus!

Sajid-Wajid’s music is splendid. Each track has been brilliantly composed so as to make your foot tap at every beat. Tracks like Besharmi ki height, Shanivaar raati and Palat are well choreographed as well.

The twists and turns in the film are timely. The comic timings are perfect. The facial expressions are superb. And lastly even though having an old formula, this film doesn’t allow you to feel bored throughout the 128 minutes. Main Tera Hero is a full on entertainer.
